Till Von Sein Interview

Can you tell us about your artistic background? What pushed you to become a DJ and electronic music producer?
I was a rapper and a total hip hop freak before I started getting into electronic music. One point, I got bored with rap music and started to DJ, mostly trip hop and early French house music, and after a while I felt the need to produce my own music.

Tilly’s Tool, I read, is a kind of tribute to your beginning of your love for music and your youth, tell us the idea and the story behind it.
I wanted to create a tool track, which I never really did before (at least I think so ;)). A groovy and funky rhythm track with a simple guitar and bassline added by some more African kalimba-esque sounds. I tried to mix some of my main influences in this track and kept it positive. Once the kalimba melody kicks in everybody smiles.

How important is it for a musician to reach their own personal style and identity?
I think it’s very important. I’m always a big fan of unique and special artists. You can feel when it comes from the heart and the soul

Which roads will your music take this year?
In the past I worked on a lot of different styles, but right now I focus 100% on house music. Deep and groovy …but let’s see, maybe I feel different in some months 😉

What are your plans for the near future?
I’m working on music all the time; I have some remixes and more EPs lined up for the first half of the year.
besides that, lots of touring. BPM in Mexico, Cape Town, Bangkok, Puerto Rico… some really interesting places lined up for the next couple of months

And to end, what advice do you have for those who want to approach “electronic music”?
Just go with the flow, there will always be something you like. Whether it’s some ambient or some drum n bass. And don’t be narrow minded, life is too short for that.

Thank you for your time, we wish you all the best
It was a pleasure.
