Ray Okpara makes his Saved debut with the monstrous Gipsy EP. With past releases and remixes on Anja Schneider’s Mobilee Records, Nick Curly’s 8Bit and Cecille, and seminal German-imprint Get Physical, it’s clear that Ray’s talent as a producer has not been unnoticed amongst his peers.
The eponymous Gipsy begins proceedings, fusing a hypnotic display of guitar-laden melodies with solid, grooving drums, and really starts the EP off as it means to go on; with an inherent need to get the dancefloor moving.
Next up on the B-side, we have Atlixco. A slightly darker number in comparison to the more melodic A-side, Atlixco is a masterclass in vocal-use, and really shows off Okpara’s skills as a producer. Featuring swinging percussion with an unforgettable vocal, this B-side is sure to make it into DJ’s bags worldwide. Rounding off the EP on the C-side is the entrancing Buster
– a solid workout of vocal treatments, wrapped up in one of the biggest grooves you’ll hear all year, Buster brings to a close Okpara’s showcase of talent, and nicely completes an EP that is perfect for dancefloors worldwide; with such a solid EP and debut on the label, expect to see more of Ray
Okpara very soon!
